    COMPENSATION TO NEXT OF KIN OF ARMY PERSONNEL KILLED IN FIGHTING TERRORISTS

    1649. SHRI ANUBHAV MOHANTY: 

    Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:

    (a) how many Army personnel were killed in fighting terrorists during the years 2012, 2013 and 2014;

    (b) what was the compensation provided by Government to the next of kin of those killed fighting the terrorists;

    (c) how many of such cases are pending where the compensation has not yet been provided; and

    (d) the details of such cases and the reasons therefor?

    (a) The number of Army personnel martyred in fighting terrorists during 2012, 2013 and 2014 are as under:

    (b) The details of benefits / compensation payable to Next of Kin (Nok) of martyrs is annexed.

    (c) & (d): Only two cases of November 2014 are pending in which also substantive payment has been made.

    ANNEXURE IN RESPECT OF REPLY GIVEN IN PART (b) OF RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1649 FOR 4.8.2015 REGARDING COMPENSATION TO NEXT OF KIN OF ARMY PERSONNEL KILLED IN FIGHTING TERRORISTS.

    BENEFITS / COMPENSATION BEING PAID TO THE NOKs OF SOLDIERS {BATTLE CASUALTIES (FATAL)}

    1. The following monetary benefits / compensation to the NoK of martyrs being paid as per Government order are given below:-

    (a) Liberalised Family Pension as applicable to Battle casualty which is equal to emoluments last drawn by the deceased individual. 

    (b) Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity which is based on length of service rendered and emoluments last drawn by the deceased individual. 

    (c) Army Group Insurance Fund:- 
    (i) Officers - Rs.50 Lakhs
    (ii) JCOs/OR - Rs.25 Lakhs 
    (d) Army Group Insurance Maturity which is based on the contribution made by the deceased Army personnel. 

    (e) Army Wives Welfare Association Fund:- 
    (i) Officers - Rs.10,000/-
    (ii) JCOs/OR - Rs.15,000/- (w.e.f. 1st April, 2015) 
    (f) Army Officers’ Benevolent Fund - Rs.50,000/- 

    (g) Army Central Welfare Fund - Rs.30,000/-. 

    2. Ex-gratia lump sum compensation for Rs.10 lakhs.
